Mend and Make Do - The Return; well, the start actually.

Today was the first meeting of my "mend and make do" craft group at the local community hall and I'm thrilled to say that 10 people turned up despite the fact that as yet we have not put up one poster or advertisement anywhere!

It's going to be a really nice group. We're collecting patterns, knitting needles, anything really so that we have a lot of stuff to hand to be able to work on our individual projects, but we're collaborating with the community centre in making things to be sold at the family fun day in June. One of our ladies has already made a fabulous head start in making clothes for Barbies and she's come up with some belters.

Some of the ladies have really proficient skills, some want to develop their skills. We can all do things that the other ladies would like to learn, so skills we shall share! Most importantly though, it's bringing the community together, and we need as much of that as we can get. Older ladies are sat chatting with younger ladies; that's the way!

I have been promised dome wonderful supplies for the group, and we're still collecting, so don't forget! Keep your eyes pealed for things we can use!

I'm off out tonight with my daughter and I'm itching to put my new top on. I made it out of an old top that made me look, er, portly, so I'm looking forward to that. Let's just hope the stitching holds!

An email was received today from Radio Wales. Looks like I'm back on there on Friday! How exciting! Amongst other things, I'll have to mention the fact that we're just coming up to our 2,000th page view in 15 countries! I never for a second thought that I'd get here, so, to all you lovely peeps that keep coming back for more punishment - "me love you long tiiiime"!

Crafty as ...

So I't's been decided. The long awaited "make do and mend" craft group will be up and running as of Tuesday 2nd March 2010.

09.30-12.00, every Tuesday at Swffryd Community Centre is where it's at. If you'd like to join us you'll be VERY welcome, if you have any craft supplies you'd like to donate to us, or you know someone else who does, please get in contact - I'm quite happy to collect but as yet we have no money to purchase materials. Do you know anyone who can get us in touch with factories that may donate off cuts of fabric/foam anything really? Please ask about for us.

We'll be working towards the stocking of the craft stall at the Swffryd Community Centre Fundraising Fun Day, also getting involved with the making of the costumes for the Centre Pantomime, rehearsals etc starting in March also.

We'll also be recruiting some voluntary speakers to come give us demonstrations of different things, so if you know an expert in something ...

I thought yesterday was cold turkey!

My Step Mother (aka mad blonde) has had a Hospital appointment today so I've been drafted in to look after her shop. I'm actually quite glad of this as the last few times she's asked me I've had other things on so I've not been able to help.

I don't really mind being surrounded by lovely things in her shop. Part of my drive to lead a more "soul-full" existence is to support small businesses, local businesses and the businesses of my friends and family, so should I NEED to purchase something (a gift or an item one really shouldn't be without, e.g. kecks or anti stink spray) I have some options.

I have the jouyous task of a mountain of ironing to look forward to this afternoon. I actually don't raelly mind this too much as it gives me an option to see where I may be lacking in the wardrobe department and where I need to focus my attention. The leggings are getting darned today too as I wanted to wear them. Wish I'd warn my wellies, actually, as the snow is coming down quite heavily in Pontypool. I also intend to get some photos on here this afternoon and start collecting up my black fabrics for dyeing. My crochet work has been a little neglected too... where on earth am I going to find the time?!?!

The Food Co-op I help run is back on this week so I'm looking forward to that and must get my order in and I can't wait to eat the rest of the yummy Syn free (I'm doing Slimming World) curry I had last night. My community groups are moving forward too so if anyone (I know you don't all live close) would like to get involved with a reading or craft/make do and mend group, send me a mail. Is there anyone out there who could make me a good poster for my reading group? I should've submitted it by now!
